Bean varieties released in Ecuador using CIAT materials and
methodology
Ecuador's
National Institute for Agricultural Research (INIAP), through
its National Program of Andean Legumes and Grains, released
three new bean varieties applying the CIAL participatory methodology,
designed by CIAT, and using plant material developed by this
Center.

CIAT
Director General Ruben G. Echeverría sent a message
of victory to Center staff after the successful culmination
of three consecutive international events celebrated over
the past weeks, saying that many congratulatory messages received
from all over the world "confirm that the Center is entering
a new phase."

Since
last 5 June, two new trees adorn CIAT's main entrance as homage
to two individuals who helped make our institution great:
Robert D. Havener and Douglas Pachico.

Colombian chairs CIAT
Board of Trustees
For
the second time in its four decades of history, the CIAT Board
of Trustees will be chaired by a ColombianJuan Lucas
Restrepo, a civil engineer who currently is commercial manager
of the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia and
who has served on the Center's Board of Trustees since 2008.

Changes in the CGIAR will not affect
CIAT negatively: Board of Trustees
"First-rate programs are not terminated or affected
when changes occur. That's why I believe that CIAT will not
be affected by the upcoming changes in the CGIAR," said
the chair of CIAT's Board of Trustees Gordon MacNeil to Center
staff when he presented a balance of the annual board meeting
held from 25 to 28 May.
